This is an opportunity to take part and learn about Guix Foundation ## Activity Status from the President - Summary - Successful fundraising with the goal of making Guix Foundation (and Guix) sustainable. - Expanding to 100-ish members - Making sure we have stable banking and donations platforms - thanks to Tanguy's work as Treasurer - Aligning Guix Foundation as a Sponsoring Organisation for the Guix Project - Hosting and Infrastructure - Upgrades to build farm (Bourdeaux): done, details sent to the mailing list. Work led by Andreas Enge and Christopher Baines. - Supporting Codeberg: agreed by the SAC, Guix Foundation will join Codeberg e.V and donate up to 1500 EUR this year - Community and Collaboration - Guix Days: done. Slight change this year to do pre-registrations which was very successful, leading to it almost being self-funding. - GuixConf proposal: didn't achieve consensus within the SAC, and the proposal was withdrawn. - **Members can help**: opportunity for members to organise local hacker sessions or propose other ideas - Advocacy and Education - **Members can help**: Opportunity for members to make proposals and organise activities - Guix Development - Experiment with Grant system: agreed by SAC and will be implemented shortly - Small grant system modelled on ClojuristTogether, high-trust and low-admin - **Member can help**: think about ideas that would be high impact, for yourself as a developer or suggestions - Foundation Operations - Thanks to Tanguy (Treasurer) for all his hard work. - Add additional donations platforms: agreed by SAC to add GitHub Sponsors and Liberapay. - Explore additional funding options - Won a grant from OpenSats for ~85,000 USD - this is our first grant. - Work on the CI system - we're doing the admin on this ## Treasurer - Treasurer report for 2026: - https://codeberg.org/guix-foundation/accounting/src/branch/main/reports/2026.md - The report shows all the commands in the Ledger as all our accounts are transparent on Codeberg. - Converted from Guix Europe to Guix Foundation - Started with 1000 Euros, Current balance in 40000 Euros (see Balance) - Income was mostly donations from the Fundraising Campaign - Expenses - Mostly monthly fees for hosting. - Domain name expenses as well - Guix Days, ~5000 Euros - 350 Euros for the release cake - Expecting the report to be longer next year as we will start financing things - **Members can help**: Convert your membersship to be an automated payment to reduce workload - There are 15 members with lapsed membership payments ## Bureau Activity Report Q&A - Q: What promotion activities has Guix Foundation done? - Answer: Foundation has not paid for anyone to be at an event. This is in the "Advocacy and Education" category. As a volunteer "members-driven" Foundation, there is an opportunity for members to come up with proposals and organise activities. The role of the Foundation is to connect like-minded members together and provide funding. - Q: Promotion is changing, maybe we need to go directly to leaders in different fields, how can the Foundation do this? - Answer: Members will need to come forward to suggest, organise and drive activities. We could organise a small group that would like to work on this if there is interest. - Q: What are the difficulties in communications between SAC and Bureau - Answer: SAC is the highest power in the Foundation outside of the AGMs. Members put forward proposals and the SAC discusses and votes on the proposal. Practically, the majority of the work is done by the Bureau. We've agreed that we will have discussions in the SAC, and it will make adjustments to proposals but also that the Member making the proposal may withdraw it if they feel they can't operate the proposal as finalised. There will be quarterly meetings of the SAC to discuss projects as we become busier. ## Vote to Accept/Decline the Bureau Activity Report - 18 Accepted (+3 delegated), 0 Declined out of 24 attendees (+3 delegated) - Result: the Bureau Activity Report is accepted ## Q&A with current SAC - 7 in total, 2 were unable to attend - Q: Does the SAC have any physical meetings? - Answer: No. Most members attend 'Guix Days' so there were informal discussions there, but not all members of the SAC attend as we're all distributed. - Q: Should we discuss 'physical safety' of meetings? - Answer: The only meeting which Guix Foundation supports is Guix Days, there's a new volunteer who has come forward to organise it this year. Where a topic should be something that is discussed within Guix, or within Guix Foundation. This is a topic for further development and discussion, particularly if volunteers can step forward to help out. - Question: could we advocate Guix with software developers? The example is how Nix has taken off with software developers. - There's been a bit of interest on guix-devel and guix-help mailing list. It's an interesting project. Suggestion is to bring up the topic on guix foundation members list, in some cases volunteers can collaborate together and it doesn't cost anything or in others Guix Foundation may be able to provide funding. - Some discussion about Guix becoming more mature and that meaning we could do more promotion. - Reference to the Guix Foundation peertube - any member could publish appropriate videos, and Guix is also on Mastodon.
