Guix Foundation Supporting Codeberg

Wed 15 July 2026

In February the SAC (organising committee) voted to join Codeberg and donate to support it.

This is important for Guix both because their mission of creating a Free Software platform for collaboration aligns with our goals, but also because we directly rely on Codeberg being able to run a reliable development service. As we know running infrastucture is complex and expensive.

As Guix Foundation is a corporate entity we have joined as a 'Supporting Member' with the President acting as the contact. Additionally, Tanguy as Treasurer has joined as an 'Active Member'. This means we'll be able to represent Guix Foundation at Codeberg e.V AGM and meetings.

In total, we'll be donating up to €1500 throughout the year to support Codeberg. We're being prudent about how we do this by splitting our donation into two tranches, as those funds depend on donations coming in from Guix supporters.

There was a recent post reflecting on Guix's first year on Codeberg which is worth checking out.

Donate to Guix using Liberapay or GitHub Sponsors

Thu 09 July 2026

One of our goals for this year has been to make it as easy as possible to donate to Guix and to join Guix Foundation. After all, if someone decides they want to support the project then we want to make it simple, fast and efficient for them. In support of that you can now donate to Guix using Guix Foundation on Liberapay, or using GitHub Sponsors through the Guix Mirror repository.

One thing to note is if you're based in the EU or UK then the most effective way to give is using a SEPA transfer as this has the lowest fees so more of your money will go to Guix.

Liberapay is a recurring donation platform designed to "fund the creators and projects you appreciate". It's particularly popular with FOSS projects. The way it works is that you choose the amount and period that you'd like to donate and can split your donations over multiple projects. If you'd like to donate to Guix you can:

Donate through Liberapay

GitHub sponsors supports both recurring and one-off donations. It's a very big platform for Open Source sponsorship with over $40M given back to maintainersTheir platform operates in 103 regions so if you (or your organisation) has a GitHub account then this may be an easy way to sponsor Guix. If you're trying to get your company to support Guix then GitHub Sponsors may be a good option as they're a large company and trust-worthy brand that many businesses are familiar with.

We've enabled GitHub Sponsorship on the GNU Guix mirror repository. It isn't used for active code contributions, but you can donate to Guix through it. It supports both recurring and one-off donations.

If you're not on these but would like to give to Guix then see the Donate page for other options.

Thanks for supported Guix by donating, you're making a difference and we really appreciate it!

Annual General Meeting 2026

Mon 15 June 2026

The Annual General Meeting for 2026 took place on Sunday 14th of June.

There was a report by the President and Treasurer on the financial health of Guix Foundation. We also covered how the Foundation is performing against the budget and some of our latest plans.

Any member of the Foundation can join the SAC (organising committee), and additionally the President and Treasurer roles are elected. A new SAC was voted in for 2026 and the President and Treasurer were returned for another year.

There was also some general discussion about various aspects of how we support Guix. If you couldn't make it there's a video recording of the AGM meeting:
